Ester at Leaders in Architecture & Design Conference
Ester participated in a panel discussion about Storytelling in Hospitality Design. She disrupted the anticipated conversation by challenging what we mean by "storytelling" in design. She explained that too often "story" might not be integral to the design and is cringe-worthy decoration that seems fake, and dreamed up by committees that do not actually design anything. She argued for a more authentic and nuanced "story" that is integral to the specific space, the location of the hotel, or the cuisine of the chef - something that comes from careful listening to all the influences on a design. She explained that EBA uses design to make a customized experience that is less decorative and is more authentic.
